Gummies are loved by everyone, also from dogs. Homemade gummies are easy and fast to make for dogs.
Gelatin is the base for gomitas para perros. You can dissolve it in water or other liquids. I added lots of flavor to my liver broth. You can mix many liquid bases and add extra treats to give your dog a sweet, savory or mixed gummy treat.
Get your trays ready for the gelatin mix before you start. You can use silicone trays, or ice cubes trays.
It will make it much easier to pop the gummies into the trays by spraying the trays with olive oils. I used an olive oil mister. Simply pump the mixer up to create a spray.
Spray the olive oil in silicone molds.
A silicone tray or an extra ice tray is not necessary. It’s enough to use a small jellyroll or disposable foil pan. You can spray the pan with olive oil and then use a knife to cut out the squares. You can be sure your dog won’t mind.
How to make gelatin for your dog?
Now it’s the time to make the gelatin
Original unflavored gelatin. It contains only gelatin and has 5 calories per cup.
I used liver soup that I’d made from leftover dog treats. You can also make homemade soup from chicken broth. Or you can make liver broth just the way with beef or chicken liver.
So the broth would be chilled, I thawed it in the refrigerator overnight.
Step one is to sprinkle two packets (2 tablespoons) of gelatin on 1/4 cup of cold soup. Give the gelatin a minute to “bloom”.
While you wait to heat the broth, heat a quarter cup on the stovetop or in a microwave. It doesn’t matter if the broth contains bits of meat; your dog will love them!
Once the broth comes back to a boil in the saucepan, heat the broth until it is boiling. Add the hot broth to your cold broth.
Mix it well, then place in the trays.
Tip it’s easier to use flexible silicone trays than rigid ice cube trays if the silicone trays are placed on a cookie sheets before you fill them. It will make it easy to transport the trays into refrigerator.
Let the gummies sit in the refrigerator for four to five hours, and then take them out of the trays.
You can keep the gummies in the fridge up to four times. Cool treats to enjoy after a summer walk with your dog!
Gummies can be used to secretly give pills to your dog. All you have to do is insert the pill into gelatin and it’s a treat!
